Jen and Paulo are absolutely phenomenal teachers. I've taken acting classes for years, but they've helped re-ignite the flame that reminds me-minute by minute in class-why i want to be an actor in the first place. The comedy scene study class with Paulo is great- he really helps you to be true to your character and not to the comedy, therefore, making the scene way more hilarious.
Jen's technique is just mindblowing. She starts with a meditation which helps everyone relax and ground and open to their truth. While you're in her class, each of your cells feel more alive. You're working at such a heightened intensity that you look absolutely magnetic on film. Which you get to see at home, because you leave each class with a super high quality DVD. If nothing else, you can rest assured that you can see the drastic weekly improvement IN YOUR HANDS.
But it's so much more than that. I've always been a passionate actor. But now I'm so aware of all of the things a lesser acting coach would miss. Jen calls you on all the shit you do to avoid being really uncomfortable, and that's where all the magic happens. Now I am completely confident that even (or possibly especially) when the scene feels uncomfortable or a bit dangerous, that's when you're really growing.
They do more than just help you improve. They inspire you to succeed. And you do. While nailing all of your camera angles and being completely open and honest.
I could not recommend Krater Studios highly enough.

Very unique and personalized approach to the work. Particularly liberating to those like me coming from a more regimented background well versed in 'choices' and how to break down scripts etc. My work is translating to look a lot freer and more effortless with this catered-to-the-individual-human-experience-on-any-given-day (or I should say any given moment) kind of "technique," and learning how to filter that into the work. Takes a little adjusting, but helps get you out of your head and looking more alive, engaging, fluid, and natural on camera. Not to mention the supportive atmosphere. Would recommend!

I had audited several acting studios before deciding to take class at Krater Studios. In the first free seminar, I saw results from every actor who worked. That had to mean something, so I signed up for the 10-week intensive. It totally kicked my butt into gear. Taking class three times a week for several hours a day really throws you into the fire. There's no time to judge your process, you're just doing it. I feel more prepared know when I walk into an audition room then I ever have in my life.
What I love most about Jen and Paolo is how clear it is that they love actors and they love teaching. There is so much support from them and from the other students in class. They really succeeded in creating an acting playground, where you can be free to explore and grow. When they are tough on you, it is from a nurturing place, not to break you down. I would recommend Krater Studios to anyone looking for an on-camera class.

If you can get in to Krater Studios (there is a line out the door) You are very very LUCKY. Flying in to LA from NYC are Jen & Paolo - They are the best acting coaches in the world. I met them through one of their free seminars and had no intention of joining a studio - but was curious about the "ON-Camera" technique. Well..I ended signing up for the delux package of classes that day - and it was the best decision Ive made in a long time.
Be ready to shed your crap - this is the real deal.

Paolo and Jen bring a lot of life into the studio. Both are honest, direct and and do not coddle actors. They do not yell, insult or belittle actors. The studio encourages actors to take chances and explore. All your work is recorded and you get a DVD to take with at the end. Nice to see yourself. Helps to clarify what the camera see's. You work every week, and not just for a few minutes. You do your scene, audition or cold read a number of times. The other students in the class are receptive and very professional. I walk away from every class feeling like I have grown and/or made adjustments. I love the fact that if I miss a class Jen will work with me to help get the class made up. I don't feel like I spend a lot of money on classes that I may miss one... I get to take it at another time. Jen and Paolo offer a number of different payment insentives so the price per class can be reduced. Thanks Paolo and Jen for putting actors before your bottom line!

If I was to describe everything I was hoping for in an acting class it would be what I get from Jen at Krater Studios.
I’d acted when I was young person with no real training. I naively came to L.A. to make it. I audited several acting classes and never found the right fit. I wasn’t prepared for what was ahead and eventually I put my dream to bed.
After years of working in the “real “ business world, I felt “that feeling” pulling at me again and decided to pursue it. I started asking working actors I knew, about acting teachers they liked and Krater Studios came up more than once, so I decided to give it a go. Like most creative types all my insecurities surfaced: Was I to old to fit in? Would it be like a lot of the other studios where only the special cliques got the special attention, blah, blah, blah…
I’ve got to say honestly, from day one, Jen’s class felt like home. . The challenging but supportive environment of the class is unlike what I’ve seen in other classes. Her passion for the craft, caring and attention to all of her students is really inspiring. Jen has a keen eye and is devoted to getting the best out of all of us. Having a DVD of our work to go over after each class is a great tool.
In a few shorts months since I began class, and on my second audition since starting, I booked a great role in a film. Thanks Jen, I’m living my dream again!

Jen and Paolo of Krater studios are two incredible teachers. They are insightful, astute, nurturing and they don't miss a thing. For actors who are transitioning from theatre work to on-camera they guide the work to deeper levels of truth in the moment that takes the actor's craft to a powerful new level that doesn't look like acting at all. The proof is in the fact that their students are booking.

Jen and I were students in class with Sally Johnson in NYC years and years ago. It was obvious then that she had such a great understanding of how to work in front of the camera and I was honored to watch her work every week. SO, when Jen began to teach on her own I didn't hesitate to sign up for her class and allow my former classmate to become my teacher. While it was hard to digest losing her and Paolo to LA, she has prepared me well to succeed on my own in this business and I still have the opportunity to work with her when I find myself on the West coast. She will always be a wonderful inspiration to me and I can't wait to work with her again.
Her guidance has had a direct result in my booking work. Next week I guest star in an episode of Body of Proof on ABC and just shot a guest spot on White Collar for USA. I have a film in theaters now called The Mighty Macs and am looking forward to a busy episodic season this fall and a crazy pilot season early next year. I wouldn't be where I am without Jen Krater!

I first came to Krater Studios because of their free workshop and a recommendation from my friend. I was so excited by what I saw and Jen and Paolo's approach that I signed up for their 6 week intensive that day. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but from the first class I knew I was in the right spot. Their three classes targeted the things I needed the most – how to own my auditions, how to work with the camera once I've booked the job, and how to bring my instincts into a cold read. I started to find a seamlessness between my thoughts and what I shared through the lens. I also think because the classes were so small, I developed a sense of community that promoted and celebrated my growth and the growth of my classmates.
As for the classes themselves, each week you work on camera with a really rich scene and operate the camera for another actor. Plus you get a DVD of your work with a first take and work after notes. Jen and Paolo are committed to helping you gain a comfort level and depth on screen. They also want to make sure you have an understanding of how to can make your shots work for you. Moving between the three classes each week meant a lot of homework time – I was working the first read of a scene, while preparing pages for a callback, and watching the DVD of my work before going in for cold reads. What made the process even wilder for me was that I booked a comedy pilot and was cast in a show. They don't call it intense for nothing! I honestly feel that I would not have been as emotionally and creatively available to do all of this work if I hadn't been in the intensive.
I go into auditions now feeling more confident and grounded than I ever have. And once my show closes, I'll be back. I'm actually having a hard time deciding on which class to take because they all were so incredible. If you're looking for a place to work out, gain new skills and go deeper in your work, Krater Studios is the place to be.

I have been in LA for about five years now and started studying at krater studios several months ago. Jen and Paolo have had a bigger impact on my craft and my confidence than any other class I've ever taken. Including my 4 years training for my BFA in acting I've been taking classes for 12 years and never have I witnessed such enthusiasm and deep seeded passion for the craft of acting than what Jen and Paolo bring into the class room.
Acting is a skill that needs constant attention and must always be challenged in order to really develop. If you are ready to be challenged and grow in a way that will truly prepare you for a professional career, or take you're professional career to the next level, then this is where you want to be studying.
I personally have found that having a DVD of my work in my hand when I leave class has been a total game changer. It has upped my game and my ability to book. It has sharpened my technical skills which in turn allows me to relax and really breath into the character and my performance and not be thrown by all the technical variables thrown at you in all the different types if audition spaces. This class has strengthened my performance in front if the camera like none other.
See for yourself. Audit the class and get in front of the camera and see proof on your DVD after class of your growth from take to take with Jen and Paolo's guidance. It's a no brainer.

I started classes with Sally Johnson in New York and continued for years afterwards with Jen Krater when she began teaching. These classes have been the most influential in my continued developement as an actor. Jen practices what she teaches. I have seen her work in class and in film - superb. As a teacher she has such a keen insight into the scenes and each individual actor. She pushes and prods, but always and only in the interest of finding and expressing our own inner caches of creativity and emotion and the making of truthful work.
These classes have served me well in auditions, and shoots, and though I am primarily working in theatre, what I have uncoverd and learned in the classes has been tremendously useful especially during rehearsals.

I have done my best work in Jen's class. I have been performing since I was kid and have usually felt acting classes did little more then give me a chance to practice. But with Jen, I actually learn and get better. She pays close attention to my work, acknowledging where my strengths are and letting me know what I need to stop or start doing. I leave class feeling proud of my work as an actor and with a clear understanding of what I can do to keep moving forward. I am so greatful to have found a studio in LA that will keep me committed to my craft.

Jen Krater is an absolutely amazing teacher. The risk taking, emotional work, and camera technique she teaches is invaluable. And the proof is in the pudding as I have been steadily booking leading and supporting roles in feature films since I began studying with her (not to mention countless short films, commercials, pilots, TV shows, and web series). I have also won numerous awards from festivals across the country thanks to Jen. Krater Studios is THE place to study the craft of acting!

I landed in Jen's class after attending an audit that blew me away. Jen was passionate about the craft and her students, and she constantly added value for each student. There's never just one way and there are always layers to add, and Jen coaxes amazing work! Getting to leave with a DVD of our work: priceless. The proof is all there. If you're serious about improving your on-camera technique, let alone acting, find this class!

Krater Studios is LA's gain and NY's loss. I studied with Jen for 7 years and can't wait until she comes back to NY for an intensive. Although I have a BFA in Acting and have studied with many teachers before Jen, I can honestly say I don't believe there is n a more knowledgeable, skilled, or passionate film acting teacher out there. Jen manages to find each individual actor's talent and what makes them special and then she shows them how to weave that special thing in to the work. Acting is such a human thing and many a great acting teacher or coach tends to forget that and relies too much upon the technical or doesn't push the actor hard enough to access their vulnerabilites and throw themselves into the work. Jen does that. She also teaches her actors the technical demands of working on camera but does it in such a way that it is fun and is married to the brilliant work that is being done in front of the camera. My booking and callback ratio went up when I was studying with Jen because I walked into every audition excited to share my talent with casting directors. Krater Studios is a safe place to nurture your talent, experience it's growth, and become the riskiest and most interesting actor you can be. After recently attending an LA intensive I also discovered what an amazing teacher Paolo is. If you study with Jen and Paolo it will change your career forever and it will make you fall even more in love with acting.

Jen Krater is one of those rare teachers that passionately cares about her students. Her technique does not hinder previous training; rather it augments actors’ fundamental training by furthering their ability to trust their instincts. By helping actors enter their creative imagination, they will become unpredictable and spontaneous, both of which the camera loves. Her class is an absolute necessity for television and film work.

Having studied with many teachers in LA and London - I am so grateful and Jen and Paolo have decided to make LA Krater Studios' home base. I am currently a student in Jen's INSTINCT class and not only is Jen an excellent teacher that meets the student at their level with respect and understanding (and with some nudging and a kick in the behind when warranted and we all need that from time to time) but she is also an incredible diagnostician - working specifically with what the individual actor needs to improve on to up their game. Are their classes for everyone - No - but if you are a serious actor that cares about the craft then YES - Krater Studios is the cure!

I took classes for YEARS with Jen in NYC and boy, do I miss her! She taught me so much about acting and about really bringing truth to every scene. She opened me up and I am able to be more risky as an actress because of the classes I took with her. I really wish she could divide her time between NY and LA!

Jen and Paolo are simply the best. You will not find more caring and passionate teachers out there. Having studied with them in both NY and LA I can say with 100% certainty, they create the safest environment in which the working professional can continue to grow as an artist. I repeat, this is a class for the working professional - and it shows in the work as well as the ever growing list of bookings.
Jen's class took me to a whole new level in my acting. Coming out of a reputable acting program in NYC, she has pulled things out of me that no one else could. The technique is ballsy, honest, no-bullshit and dares you to take big risks that will help you stand out and BOOK - but always in the safest, most caring environment. It's true, some actors are uncomfortable with how personal the process can be but I will say from my own experience - it will change your view of acting forever.
Do yourself a favor and see for yourself the beautiful and truthful work being done every week at Krater Studios.

The best acting coach I have ever worked with for Film and Television.
I can't stress it enough. If you haven't worked with Jen or Paolo yet, take a class.
After working with Jen I started not only growing, maturing, and learning so much as an actor but also booking a lot as well. Her technique is the best for acting. It is truthful, personal, and unique. She helps you become comfortable in your skin while being as truthful to yourself as possible. She's the best. Paulo is a great teacher as well.

I worked with Jen in NYC and although I didn't always agree with her evaluations of my work, after watching my class recordings I always discovered that she was right! I learned very quickly to take her critiques of my work to heart while not taking them as attacks on me personally. She's a very direct and honest teacher, exactly what you need in a world where actors are truthfully a dime a dozen. She's like the athletic trainer that always pushes you to work your hardest and get the best results. She's one of the greats.

I can't express nearly enough how grateful I am to have found Krater studios! Since I started, I have grown in such extreme ways as an actress in such a short amount of time, way beyond what I initially thought I was capable of. Both Paolo and Jen are fantastic- love them! Having Jen mainly as my teacher- I see how she works diligently with each actor, and knows exactly what each individual needs to nurture their growth. I value what I have learned at Krater Studios- it has definitely been beneficial for my career!

The City of Angels has been blessed to receive a divine messenger in the form of Jen Krater, gracing it's actors with her insightful teachings. I sooo miss her classes here in the Big Apple! She is so very knowledgeable of how one appears on film and tv, and offers the latest techniques and solutions to bring to life the actor and ultimately the scene. The techniques are just perfect for the immediate demands of film, tv, and those auditions, and could be applied to all aspects of acting for the theatre as well. The best thing about Jen's teaching is that she supports each and every actor in a positive way, building on the actors strengths and sense of play. I'm looking forward to her next NYC intensive!
